Fashion Inspiration… NYC
As a fashion designer and stylist it’s very important to bring my best creative ideas to every project. When I need inspiration, I grab a plane ticket to my favorite fashion city, New York! It is my favorite city because there is inspiration everywhere you look.
If I am looking for color ideas for a new line or layout, I go to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral and immerse myself in the beauty of the stained glass and gleaming polished surfaces of the candelabras and light fixtures.
When I am looking for the best upscale fashion of the city, I head over to the Fifth Avenue shopping district and window shop. Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany and Co. and other high end retailers always have gorgeous window displays to give me great styling ideas. Around the winter holidays, Macy’s flagship store on 5th Avenue creates Christmas displays that are some of the most creative in the world!
My favorite places for Inspiration in New York, hands down are the Museums! On my last visit I took in the Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum. It was one of the best fashion exhibits I have ever seen. The atmosphere, the lighting, the technology used within the exhibit and the exquisite gowns were almost overwhelming. They were so beautiful, meticulous and ethereal! Touring the other galleries of the Met can inspire new draping styles, fabrics, metal finishes, color combinations, trims and entire clothing lines or Red Carpet looks.
There is Inspiration all around us, take a little time, see your environment with new eyes and go create.
