Chatting with the Curvy Fashionista
Last month we did a fabulous shoot with Marie Denee, also known as the Curvy Fahionista who has a very popular blog by the same name. Just celebrating her 3rd anniversary, we wanted to check in with this plus size fashion and style expert to find out how she got started and what she has in store for the future. Let’s find out what’s up…..
How did you get your start as a fashion blogger?
I started blogging as an outlet for all of the resources I was collecting while I was in grad school! It was kind of like an epiphany! I realized that if it was this hard for me to find all the things I like, I knew it had to be difficult for other plus size women! From there, The Curvy Fashionista was born! It has greatly evolved since then, but the core mindset of it has stayed the same! I really wanted the blog to be the resource for all things contemporary plus size fashion!
What inspired you to carve your niche into plus size fashion?
As a plus size woman myself, I knew that I had issues finding the contemporary fashions in my size. The Curvy Fashionista is a reflection of the things that move me fashion-wise and the issues that we all endure as women! I wanted to speak on it and be a voice for the consumer as well! I knew there were designers available but they were not all in one place…centralized for women to reference and give feedback on. The business side of me saw an opportunity and the personal fashion side of me wanted to challenge the designers to give us more!
With so many fashion bloggers online, what are some challenges you’ve had to overcome to have your voice heard?
Challenges… Well, I think like with all blogs and online mediums, it’s important to be true to you and your voice! For me, I have found it best to continue to focus on the needs and wants of my readers and they know my voice! I have never looked at overcoming the challenge to have my voice heard, I see it as a chance to push myself and brand that much further! Or, in other words, create opportunities! I have been blessed and fortunate thus far?
Who are some of your favorite fashion designers?
EEK! Favorites? Well, at this moment, I am loving Dominique Auxilly, Rachel Pally, Queen Grace, Monif C Plus Sizes, Jibri, Anna Scholz, CarmaKoma, Damn You Alexis, also ASOS and Dorothy Perkins among the myriad designers that have flourished over the last five years!
Besides keeping us up to date with the latest in style, what projects do you have coming up?
I just wrapped my eBook, Keeping it Curvy.Confident.Chic. And I just finished revamping and cleaning up the site! Creating partnerships with select brands and continuing to deliver great content for my readers! Full Figured Fashion Week™ in New York along with quite a few blog conferences are next for me as well! There is sooo much more I cannot share, but you have to keep and stay tuned!
