NYFW – Spring Summer 2016

If you are currently wearing Denim, Sheers, Lace, Metallic, Camouflage, pops of Color or Animal Print, you are ahead of  the trends that were showcased at the NYFW Spring Summer 2016 shows. Hopefully, you are not wearing them all at the same time. Remember, Less is More.

NYFW Spring Summer 2016 events were held at different venues around the city. Skylight at Clarkson Square, Moynihan Station and MADE@Milk Studios were the venues for WME/IMG. Fashion also fanned out across the city and shows were held in Churches, Galleries and even the famed Alvin Ailey Studios, which was the site for Designer Linda Rowe Thomas@Romas and Binzario.

Madison Square Garden was the location where designers Heidi Klum, Levi’s and Tommy Hilfiger combined with musicians, Jason Derulo and Nate Ruess performed in what was billed as the Worlds Largest Fashion Show. And, for the first time ever, the House of Givenchy gave out 800 tickets to students from Parsons and FIT. Everyday fashion fans were able to enjoy the experience of going to an honest to goodness “Fashion Happening.”  If you happened to be near Penn Station, you could watch fashion shows from designers Naeem Khan to Betsey Johnson, (who is celebrating her 50th Year in Fashion!!!! and what a Party her Runway was) on the big screen. And on the ground level, we could listen to Johnny Herbert serenade us on his ukulele.

Accessories were making statements everywhere and one that kept popping up on runways was socks! Cute sheer ankle socks with delicate details to “Bam, Pow” kneehighs and even thigh highs with lace insets. Think 80’s flashback, but worn with everything from high heels to high tops to pointy toe flats and everything in between. Head ornamentation, not just traditional headbands, but statement making headwraps and Mohawk styled headbands ruled the catwalk at Desigual.

A wonderful trend that happened everywhere was “Inclusiveness.” The Catwalk was a veritable smorgasbord of gorgeousness, color, ethnicity and hair baby! Natural Styles ruled the day, kinks, curls, straight, waves, and braids were seen from uptown to downtown, in the clubs and on the street. The top items to rock the Fall season for Men and Women are:

1- Distressed Denim done tastefully.
2- Sheer – Men and Women are rocking this look.
3- Metallic – an oversized sweater or a great belt, shoe or bag.
4- Animal Print – think of it as a neutral and throw on a spot of animal with a print that has similar colors
5- Camouflage – A fitted shirt or an oversized knee length jacket are my favorite looks.
6- A pop of color – make it bright, make it your Favorite!
